About Bergström Winery
Bergström Winery is a renowned boutique winery located in Oregon's Willamette Valley, specifically in the Dundee Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area). It was founded by John and Karen Bergström in 1999, focusing primarily on producing high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The winery is known for its commitment to sustainable farming practices and crafting wines that express the unique terroir of their vineyard sites.
Bergström Winery has gained critical acclaim over the years for its elegant and complex wines, which reflect the cool-climate characteristics of the Willamette Valley. Dundee Hills AVA vs. Walla Walla AVA
Dundee Hills AVA
- Located in the Northern Willamette Valley of Oregon.
- The climate is maritime influenced by the Pacific Ocean, characterized by cool, moist winters and warm, dry summers.
- The elevation ranges from 200 to 1,067 feet.
- Soil: predominantly volcanic basalt-based Jory soil. This is well drained and nutrient poor making it perfect for grape quality.
- Grape Varieties: most well known for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
- Wine Styles: Pinot Noir from Dundee Hills tend to be elegant, with red fruit flavors, floral aromatics, and a balanced acidity.
Walla Walla AVA
- Located in southeastern Washington, it straddles the Washington-Oregon border.
- The climate is semi-arid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Annual rainfall is low resulting in low disease pressure for vineyards.
- Soil: varietay of soils from wind blown loess, to river rock, and silt loam.
- Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah are best known here.
- Wine Styles: Walla Walla wines are structured with lushious tannins and complex fruit flavors.
Overall, whil both AVAs are renowned for producing high-quality wines, their distinct climates, soils, and grape varieties result in wines that reflect their unique terroir!

In Swedish, “Ekollon” means acorn. John and Karen Bergström lovingly chose this name for their home where they first laid vines with a dream for a legacy winery. In their footsteps, their son Josh and his wife Caroline now farm 70 acres of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah across 3 AVAs.

Named after the bridge on the Pepper Family farm used in the days of the settlers, Norm McKibben chose a stunning spot to the south of Walla Walla to build the winery. Surrounded by vineyards, planted fields, and the sweeping views of the Blue Mountains we invite you to slow down and take your time here.

Wine Library Tasting – 12 bottle purchase requirements (6 bottle purchase requirement for you as club members)
Walk through the winemaking facility, enjoying an in-depth exploration of our gravity-flow practices, setting the scene before you kick back and enjoy a private tasting in wine library--one of our most special spaces.
If you would like you can choose to do our club tasting flight, glass pours, or a hand-selected list of wine for bottle service. Options will be provided prior to your appointment via email, the bottle service will include options of Library Wines that have lived their whole life in the room you get to enjoy them in.
Winery Luncheon – $90 per person ($76.50 for you as club members)
Indulge in a memorable dining experience with our hearty, seasonal coursed menu, artfully crafted by Hattaway’s on Alder. Each dish is thoughtfully paired with our wines, creating a perfect harmony of flavors. Enjoy the best offerings of the season and savor local cuisine and winemaking in an elegant, inviting setting.
Club Tasting – $20 per person (Complimentary for you as club members)
Enjoy a line-up of our current release wines, including a special club wine, with a member of our winery family & learn about the winery history at a reserved table overlooking our estate.
