Dark plum and black cherry abound in the 2018 Merlot. Blue notes and a touch of cedar linger in the background on the nose of this wine. The palate is full bodied, balanced by fresh acidity with black and blue fruit interwoven with savory qualities, reminiscent of iron and brambles. Supple tannins create a rich and textured mouthfeel which leads to a smooth and long, dark finish.
The 2018 harvest kicked off with a nice even spring. July brought in hotter temperatures, as well as some smoke from surrounding fires. But by the second week of August, the weather cooled off considerably to usher in one of the most ideal ripening seasons in recent history. September brought beautiful, mild weather, offering the fruit several extra weeks to hang during long, sun-filled fall days. Harvest was wrapped up on October 15th producing wines that are balanced with great fruit expression. A harvest to remember, indeed!

“…shows off beautiful cocoa powder covered Bing cherry and sandalwood tones alongside graphite and red raspberry cordial on this beautiful bouquet. The palate is deep and plush, showing off a silky texture and great sense of mouthfeel. Rich red and dark fruits parade alongside milk chocolate and coffee grounds on the palate.”

“Merlot is capable of reaching high heights in Washington, particularly in Walla Walla Valley, with this producer consistently producing outstanding examples. …expressive, with notes of dark raspberry, dried herbs, red cherry and assorted barrel spices. The flavors are plump in feel but show lovely deftness and freshness. It’s nearly irresistible now but will only get better with time…”
